Spring 1979 Flood

Spring 1979 Flood

On Friday afternoon, March 2, 1979, the East Twin River, which passes through downtown Mishicot, began to overrun its banks due to heavy rains and rapid snow melt, flooding the village park and part of Main Street. By the following Monday, the high water had receded.

This view is looking downstream over the Mishicot Dam, completely underwater, with several large pieces of ice caught on the edge of the dam. This was the original dam, and the drop was approximately five to six feet.

This photo was taken Saturday morning, March 3, 1979.
