Spring 1979 Flood

Spring 1979 Flood

On Friday afternoon, March 2, 1979, the East Twin River, which passes through downtown Mishicot, began to overrun its banks due to heavy rains and rapid snow melt, flooding the village park and part of Main Street. By the following Monday, the high water had receded.

This view is looking southeast down East Main Street. The Badger Bowl is on the left in the foreground and the parking lot for Krause’s Super Market (now the Mishicot Family Market) is on the left in the distance. To the right in the foreground the Krajnik Chevrolet (now Brickner’s Parkside Auto) car lot is partially visible. All of the cars on the lot were moved to the high school parking lot on Friday as the waters began to rise.

This photo was taken Saturday morning, March 3, 1979.
